Paint by Morris & Co

We are quite sure that we are not the only ones excited by the new Morris & Co paint range, boasting 40 different hues based upon extensive research into the historic archives and 19th Century log books of William Morris. Not only are the colours a beautiful mix of traditional and contemporary styles, but the quality is everything you would expect from a product developed by craftspeople.  Hand-mixed and made in the UK, the techniques and provenance uphold the traditions of Morris & Co.

With two high-quality finishes including a Matt, chalky emulsion and a highly opaque eggshell with a low sheen, the paint will boast a high quality finish with low VOCs for an environmentally-friendly decorating option.

There are some wonderful colours in the range, so let’s delve into their stories:

Inky Fingers

Once, William Morris was famously observed trialling a method of Medieval dyeing techniques and was described as being “up to the elbow” in Indigo. Inspired by this event, this deep and rich hue celebrates his experiments and will look fantastic on your walls.

Sunflower

A lovely bright, bold yellow inspired by golden afternoon sunlight pouring through the kitchen windows at Morris’s Red House, which became the subject of one of his famous designs of 1879. This colour offers a chance to recreate this moment in your own kitchen or by brightening up a piece of furniture.

Pearwood

A lovely light, airy colour for those who prefer neutrals, this uplifting hemp-like shade is named after the material used for Morris & Co printing blocks. Morris’s designs were carved out of Pearwood blocks and then hand-printed onto textiles or wallpaper.

Wooded Dell

The darkest green in the collection inspired by evergreen trees, this lovely deep colour creates a little drama and atmosphere in your room. Morris famously loved and drew inspiration from the natural world, and in an 1881 lecture on pattern making, Morris said “I must have unmistakable suggestions of gardens and fields, and strange trees, boughs and tendrils, or I can’t do with your pattern.”
