12 Crafts of Christmas: Day 05 - Scrappy Tree Decoration

You can even make use of the tiniest scraps to decorate for Christmas. It is up to you what shape you choose, but we have provided the template for a Christmas tree, as an easy starting point. Send us your photos or tag us on Instagram: @CotswoldCurtains #CC12CraftsOfChristmas

You will need:

Cut strips of fabric approximately 1cm depth x 5cm length
Felt for backing
Fusing/interfacing
Iron and ironing board
Narrow ribbon or twine for hanging

Method:

Iron your strips of fabric so that they sit flat.

Cut out the smaller tree template from paper and layer fabric strips across the top of it in a pattern that you like.

Cut out thin strips of fusing (approximately 0.5cm thickness) and iron them onto half of each fabric strip (apart from the bottom one).

Peel off the backing paper and iron the strips onto each other so that they overlap.

Pin the smaller paper template onto your fabric strips and cut around it to make a tree shape.

Next, cut around the larger paper template and pin it to the felt, cutting around the edge.

Place your fabric tree onto your felt tree and sew them together by hand or with a sewing machine. Pause at the top and create a loop with your ribbon, tucking the two ends in between the felt and the fabric before sewing around the top of the tree to hold it in place.

Hang your finished tree on your Christmas tree!
