The 12 Crafts of Christmas: Day 01 - Festive Robin

The colder evenings are a lovely time to start getting crafty and so we have decided to use December to bring you 12 very simple festive makes that you can do by yourself or with children, using up fabric scraps to minimise waste. Today we are kicking off the season with a set festive robin to go on your mantlepiece or your tree.

Send us your photos or tag us on Instagram: @CotswoldCurtains #CC12CraftsOfChristmas

You will need:

One piece of brown fabric, approximately 20cm x 5cm, plus extra for wings

One small piece of red ‘belly’ fabric

Scraps of yellow fabric to make feet and a beak

Two black beads for eyes

Toy stuffing

Needle and thread

Method:

Cut around the body template on your brown fabric.

Cut around the ‘chest’ template using red fabric.

Pin your ‘chest’ just above the half-way point of the brown body fabric, and sew the two pieces together.

Fold your fabric piece in half so that the short edges meet, with the correct sides of the fabric facing each other.

Pin and sew along the two sides.

Stuff the shape with toy stuffing, leaving the top edge open.

Now, taking the two corners where you have finished sewing at the open edge, bring them together so that they meet in the middle. Sew along this new seam to create a ‘juggling ball’ shape.

Fold the wings together and sew around the edge. Attach to robin.

Now cut out your beak and feet, sewing them on where desired.

Add eyes.

Display your finished robin somewhere where it will make you smile!
